Bab Zuweila brings our collection online. Behind the website is a physical shop on Khayamiya Street in El-Darb El-Ahmar, where you can see the colours, feel the fabric and choose in person.
Khayamiya Street is part of El-Darb El-Ahmar, close to the Bab Zuweila gate. Its shops are filled with fabric, colour and the details of handwork.

A khayamiya piece starts with a design on canvas. The coloured cotton shapes are cut separately, then arranged and sewn onto the backing.
The edges are folded under as they’re stitched, leaving a neat outline. The amount of detail and the size of the design both affect how long a piece takes.

Hand-stitched khayamiya has raised edges where the fabric shapes meet. Look for those layers and the small stitches around each shape when comparing pieces.
